Nigerian Student Languishing In Ukrainian Jail For Defending Himself

A Nigerian student is languishing in Ukrainian jail for allegedly defending himself against six teenagers who attacked him in an entrance to his apartment block on November, 5 last year in Luhanski, Ukraine.

African Outlook gathered that the Nigerian identified as Olaolu Sunkanmi Femi and one of his friends were physically attacked in front of his apartment by four Ukrainian young men and two women who pulled them to the ground while hurling racist slurs on them.

According to eye witness account, Sunkanmi was said to have managed to get up and defended himself against the assailants with a glass from a broken bottle.

“It was while he was defending himself that police arrived at the scene and the Nigerian was subsequently arrested and charged with attempted murder of five people” a Nigerian embassy staff who has knowledge of the case told African Outlook, adding that the victim thus became an accused in a case which has become a celebrated case in Ukraine.

African Outlook gathered that Olasunkanmi has since been remanded in detention by the Ukrainian police who refused to take the case to court citing unavailability of the police to get an interpreter for him.

But the Nigerian students’ community in Ukraine under the leadership of Osarumen David-Izevbokun, a Phd student in international relations has been working tirelessly to ensure justice for the Nigerian by organizing protests as well as drawing the attentions of the human right groups in Ukraine to the plight of Olasunkanmi who has spent almost seven months in jail without trial.

David-Izevbokun told African Outlook that he alongside other Nigerian students in conjunctions with some members of the Ukrainian human right groups staged a protest on April, 9 outside the Leninsky District Court in Luhanski demanding the release of Olasunkanmi.

The actions, according to David-Izevbokun has put the Ukraine police on the spot as the case came up for hearing on May 3. “We had a lot of media coverage on the protest ” David-Izevbokun said, noting that he was sure the attention given the case may have prompted the May 3 court appearance of the suspect.
David-Izevbokun who was at the May 3, court hearing told African Outlook that Olasunkanmi appeared depressed when he showed up in court.
Many other Nigerian students spoken to by African Outlook however raised concern about the competence of the female lawyer: Ludmila Havrysh handling Olasunkanmi’s case.

The Ukrainian lawyer was reported to have told protesters that her client has not been able to read the file material since it is all written in Ukrainian or Russian which he doesn’t understand and that was why her client had remained in jail.

“We heard she wanted to be paid $10,000 when she had not even been able to secure bail for her client who has been in detention for more than six months” an irate Nigerian told African Outlook wondering whether the lawyer was capable of defending Olasunkanmi.

Another source also told African Outlook that one of the attackers’s family who has a connection with the Ukrainian police may have been the reason why the Nigerian student was being detained without trial.
“They went to the hospital and documents were secured for infliction of wounds. I learnt that one of the supposed victim (Ukrainian) has a police relative or parent, and so vowed to deal ruthlessly with Olasunkanmi” a Nigerian student quoted one narrator as saying while lamenting that the Nigerian embassy’s representative came to visit Olasunkanmi in jail once but did not return again after the first visit.

But an embassy spokesperson who pleaded anonymity (because he is not authorized to comment on the case) told African Outlook that the Nigerian consulate had not abandoned the Nigerian to his fate “We are in torch with the Ukrainian authority and we have been doing everything to ensure the boy is released unconditionally using diplomatic channel” he said, adding that the Olasunkanmi was being charged for attempted murder, an offense which under Ukrainian law is not bailable.

“There are ways in which we handle cases like this so that we would not appear to be hostile or criticizing our host countries’ laws” the embassy staff said while assuring that he was confident Olasunkanmi would be released soon.

When asked if the embassy has been able to secure the service of an attorney for the Nigerian student, the embassy staff said: “It is not within our mandate to pay for attorney’s fees for any Nigerian in distress, you may check this out with other Nigerian embassies abroad, but we have been working with the Nigerian community leaders here to ensure that we do everything within our means to help Olasunkanmi in time of his need” the staff added hinting that the representative of the embassy was at the May 3 hearing.

In a related development African Outlook gathered that a 28-year-old Nigerian student of Kharkiv National Radio Electronic University is in intensive care unit with knife injuries to his neck following an attack on him by people believed to be racists.

Another 19-year-old Nigerian student from the Poltava Agrarian Academy is also lying critically ill in the Ukrainian hospital following knife injury inflicted on him by yet to be identified persons.

African Outlook gathered that the two Nigerian students were attacked late in the evenings by assailants who fled the scene immediately after the attacks.

The Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Ukraine are treating both cases as attempted murder motivated by racial intolerance.

Speaking on the two recent attacks, the Nigerian embassy said they were yet to be briefed on the case.

Kanye West ready to drop D’banj over Don Jazzy breakup, steps in to reconcile both

DB Records owner and pop artiste D’Banj is desperately trying to reconcile with his former Mo’ Hits partner Don Jazzy. In a bid to get his former maverick producer back, D’Banj asked Kanye West to talk to Don Jazzy. A few months ago the rap superstar called Don Jazzy to try and get the two Mo’ Hits owners to forget the past and work again. Our source who is close to both D’Banj and Don Jazzy confirms this to be true and says that D’Banj’s attempts to get Don Jazzy back has been going on for a sometime.

Our news story also coincides with the Kanye West, Don Jazzy and D’Banj story in today’s edition of City People. According to the magazine, “Kanye West, believed to be at the center of the controversy that led to their fight is making efforts to reconcile them…Kanye West was not aware of the fight between D’Banj and Don Jazzy until 3 months ago and has been trying to get them together.”

The City People story goes on to say that “while he was in the studio with D’Banj some weeks back working on the remix of “Scapegoat” he brought the topic up again and asked D’banj why Don Jazzy was not in the US with him working on the song. D’Banj was said to have told him that they are still friends but work on different platforms now. Kanye was said not to be happy about the fact that his name was in the internet as one of the reasons the duo fell apart. He insists they get back together if he has to keep working with D’banj. He prompted D’Banj to once again try and make up with Don Jazzy.

“Recently D’Banj invited Kanye West to come to Nigeria for the video shoot of “Scape Goat” remix he did with Kanye. Kanye accepted but gave a strict condition that he will come only after he must have reconciled with Don Jazzy who must also be in the video.”

According to the City People story, after several attempts by D’Banj, Don Jazzy agreed to appear in the video on a condition that he gets paid for his appearance.

FLAVOUR IN THEFT SCANDAL?

Only God can surely intervene in this case that is gradually becoming an unbecoming. The popular Nigerian artiste who is now a toast of every lover of hip-hi-life, Flavour Nabania is alleged to have involved in a theft that may be dragging him to court soon if the matter is not quickly settled.

The multiple record-selling Nigerian artiste, Flavour Nabania (popularly known for his ‘Asahawo’ track), is to be slapped with a law suit by a Ghanaian Wutah group (now defunct) of the ‘Kotosa’ fame – which was a massive hit in Ghana in late 2008 – for what they say is a ‘theft of their intellectual property’.

The track released by Mr. Flavour Nabania, which the manager of the Ghanaian music duo is pointing out as a ‘carbon copy’ of their popular ‘Kotosa’ hit, is ‘Kwarikwa’ which is by the way enjoying massive play in Nigeria right now.

In a word from one of the people who are said to be constituting an arsenal of legal luminaries against the handsome Nigeria singer, “this does not come as a surprise to me as I already knew point blank that the material put out by Flavour was an outright plagiarized product of Kotosa. I mean I heard what seemed like Kotosa blasting from the huge speakers in a CD vendor’s shop when I was driving to a friend’s home when I visited Nigeria last two months. I was happy and surprised that Kotosa had finally made its way to Nigeria after making hits in Ghana only to hear Flavour’s signatured hi-life voice on the beat! I was disappointed to say the least. I shook my head as I passed by”

The manager of the original composers of the disputed track(Wutah Kobby and Wutah PV), we gathered, has promised to press charges against Flavour for ‘stealing’ the chorus, rhythm, rhyme and the opening saxophone be atused in their song with total disregard for their right as the only legitimate owners of the song. We shall up date you for further details.

BUSTED! JIM IYKE SPOTTED EATING ROASTED CORN IN AMSTERDAM!!!

Flavour N’abania Lands In Potential Copyright over Kwarikwa song with Fally Ipupa

I hope this goes away.
Ghanaian defunct musical group, Wutah, have said that they’ll be suing Nigerian high-life singer, Flavour N’abania for an alleged intellectual theft of their work.
‘Kwarikwa’, a song released by the ‘Ashawo’ hit maker, Flavour, which features Congolese music sensation, Fally Ipupa, is said to have the same chorus, rhyme and rhythm with their award winning song ‘Kotosa’.
‘Kotosa’ was released in 2008 and was a hit in Ghana before the Wutah groups split in 2010. Flavour released ‘Kwarikwa’ in 2011.
According to a report, one of the Wutah duo has said that they will consult their legal advisers and file a legal suite against Flavour.
However, this is not the first time the popular Nigerian high-life singer is in the news for copyright issues with the Ghanaian music industry. It would be recalled that similar reports were made concerning his hit song “Ashawo”. It was stated in the report that the song was culled from an old Ghanaian hi-life song.

Tonto Dike A Drug Addict

Nollywood actress Tonto Dike and Stella Dimoko of Encomium Magazine trades very harsh words in an interview recently. The interview was hilarious as Tonto dike did her best to match up with Stella.

Read and enjoy.

Stella: You shot the movie, My Life, My Damage, with Uche Jombo; we are yet to see the movie but it is alleged that the drug addict role you played in the movie is your true life character.

Tonto: Here we go again. I am an actor for Christ sake. And I'm supposed to make my audience believe whatever role I interpret. If any past role I have done has made anyone put a tag on me as Tonto a person, that's their problem to deal with not mine. If they say I got the role because I am on drugs, why are you calling me? Why don't you call the person who saw me fit enough to interpret the role? My damage is a movie where I interpret the role of someone who got high on drugs. Acting like a drug addict is easy. Please let them say, I am not going to respond to anyone on this issue again.

Stella: The tattoo of your face on your back was done during the movie shoot in America. Drugs and tattoo sometimes go together. Have you gone for therapy to solve this problem?

Tonto: I don't understand these questions you are asking. Have you gone to therapy for poke nosing into people's affairs? I am sure you would call it a day job. That's fine. I had my back tattooed because I always wanted to do so and during the movie shoot, we figured we could put the scene into the movie. Like you said, drug and tattoo sometimes go together and we thought it was perfect for the movie.

And Stella goes in again...LMAO!

Stella: I will ignore the insult. From the synopsis of the movie, your character did not end up well. Are you not worried that you might end up like this in real life if you continue with the drug abuse?

Tonto kinda ignores this question...

Tonto: Yes, the character I played ended up with HIV/AIDS and that's a good lesson for people who abuse sex and drugs without protection. The movie is a warning to young people living life on the fast lane because they can afford it. The consequences are very serious and in most cases, the damage done cannot be undone.

And Tonto has had enough

I don't mean to be rude but if someone calls me again attaching a movie role to Tonto as a person, I will not give any response and I won't be nice. It's a pity that people take their eyes off the film and begin to put question mark on the actor's personal life. People should focus on the character and not me. Thank you all the same for asking me, albeit that I find these questions totally demeaning and insulting on my person. Have a nice day.

This interview is crazy...what do you think of this interview?

New Music: P-Square - Alingo

I'm listening to 01 Alingo.mp3 in Hulkshare:

Funke Adesiyan Denies Breast Enlargement Rumour

Yoruba actress, Funke Adesiyan has denied the rumour going on around town about her boobs. Some people have been speculating that the actress was recently in London where she went for a breast enlargement surgery. She was asked few days ago if the rumour was true or not and here is what she said;
So funny, who is saying that? Well, I didn't travel to enlarge my boobs; it doesn't cost me anything to bluntly say it in public. I didn't do any surgery or enlargement.

I gave up searching for my British Dad after endless search – Shan George

The story of Shan George in Nollywood began as early as 1996. She made her acting debut when the late Jenifer Ossai gave her a script that landed her a sub-lead role. Today, Shan George, who has starred in over 100 flicks and still counting, has emerged as one of the most prominent faces that dominated the movie scene for most of the late 1990s and 2000s.

But controversy seems to be her middle name. From allegedly describing actresses as prostitutes to staging an all girl bikini parties, and to serial marriages, the actress it would seem just can’t avoid controversies. Beyond that, light-complexioned Shan is also a hard working mother of two boys, and with over 20 movies to her production credits, Shan has surely come a long way.

In a recent chat, Shan opens up on the scandals that have rocked her career and disclosed that these days, she no longer gives a hoot when negative stories are published about her;

“I concentrate on my passion and don’t bother about what people say. If you are a TV personality and you don’t have people trying to scandalize your name then you haven’t even started. When they come after you, it means you’ve gone far so these days I have stopped worrying, I laugh with them,” she declares.

Childhood Shan’s life’s story began decades ago when she was born at Ediba, Cross River State-Nigeria, to an English father from Manchester, England, and a Nigerian mother from the Niger Delta. Today, she has become a Nollywood icon radiating glitz and glamour with a strong fan base.

Despite losing her dad at age five, she never felt his absence because in the typical African setting where she grew up, she had many uncles and aunties who stood in for her father. What was it like growing up under a protective mum? “My mum thought me humility and never to believe that I am too much and get carried away. She taught me to always be down to earth.

Acting Shan hit Nollywood in 1996 after she got admission to study at University and with 16 years under her belt, Shan has seen and done it all, and remains very passionate about her career. According to the actress, some of the greatest challenges confronting Nollywood are the issues of financing, marketing and distribution.
If there’s one challenge the Shan has learnt to live with, it’s the fact that she might never find her father or his family members. For years she has traveled to the UK and all attempts to trace her dad or family members have failed. Recounting the experience, Shan had this to say;

“I tried looking for my dad to be sincere. I went to the company where he worked. I tried to look for his file but there were no records. The total sum of it is that I searched and searched but couldn’t get enough data to locate his family but I got enough to know that my dad was from Manchester and lived in Nigeria as an expatriate. At a point, I just gave up. But I know who my father was. I remember him with my five year-old eyes and mind. He died, he didn’t abandon my mum and I.” Any regret about acting? “Not at all,” Shan says conclusively.

How Eucharia Anunobi Allegedly Snubbed Mother When Crowned IMT Campus Queen

To many, mothers are priceless and also reverend. There is a saying in Yoruba language that goes thus, 'mothers are gold, fathers are mirrors'.

According to the gist divulged to us, while Eucharia was a campus queen at the Institute of Management at Technology, Enugu in the 80's, she allegedly snubbed and humiliated her mother who came visiting her in school back then.

We were told by a source that Eucharia told some of her friends in school who witnessed the show of shame that her mum was her nanny from Lagos.

As the source revealed, the actress now turned Evangelist was in the department of Mass Communication at IMT, Enugu when this ugly incident happened.

We learnt that Eucharia allegedly snubbed her mother because she may have felt that her mother didn't match her status as a campus most beautiful girl. She was said to have made most people believed that she was a daughter of a very rich man in Lagos.

When her mother stormed IMT, Enugu campus to see her daughter (Eucharia), she obviously was not looking like what Eucharia had painted on campus about her 'imaginary' very rich mother.
So, in order to save her head from shame and keep her 'daughter of a rich man' status and also as Miss IMT intact, she (Eucharia) allegedly told her friends, who were already surprised at the calibre of woman that appeared as her mother, that she was her nanny in Lagos sent by her 'rich parents' in Lagos to check on her in school.

This, as the source said, forced tears out of her mother's eyes and she allegedly swore at her daughter for the public disgrace and humiliation caused her.

We learnt that the former Nollywood's 'bad girl' later went back to settle with her mother some years ago.

This became necessary, as a source confided in us, because a pastor reportedly told Eucharia to do so when things were not getting too okay for her. She was reportedly told by the pastor to amends with her mother, who she had offended in the past. This reportedly happened shortly before her first marriage in the 90's.

When Eucharia was contacted to confirm or comment on this gist, she simply told us to go to her former school to find out. She thereafter hang up the phone on us. Eucharia Anunobi is now an Evangelist at a church in Egbeda area of Lagos.

22-Year-Old Conjoined Twins Share Everything Together In ONE BODY (Video)

They were never expected to survive beyond a few days.
But conjoined twins Abigail and Brittany Hensel have not only proved doctors wrong, they have astonished them with their development into darling children, typical teenagers and, lately, beautiful young adults.

SCROLL DOWN FOR VIDEO…

Now the 22-year-olds, who share one body fused at the torso, will be starring in their own reality TV show chronicling their graduation from Bethel University in Minnesota, their post-grad job search and their travels through Europe with friends.

The girls first captivated the world in 1996 when they appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show and the cover of Life Magazine.

Since then they have lived a quiet, normal life with their family in Minnesota, keeping away from the media spotlight until they agreed to appear on a documentary for TLC when they turned 16.

The broadcaster has now given them their own show called ‘Abby and Brittany’ which will premiere on August 28.

When the Hensel twins were born on March 7, 1990, in Minnesota in the United States, doctors warned their parents Patty, a registered nurse, and Mike, a carpenter and landscaper, that they were unlikely to survive the night.

But that prediction was to prove wildy wrong.

When growing up, they, like many twins, had very different personalities and tastes.
Abigail, the feisty, stubborn one, liked orange juice for breakfast, while Brittany, the joker of the family, would only touch milk.

They also stunned doctors with their astonishing co-ordination while playing the piano, with Abigail taking the right-hand parts and Brittany the left.

They enjoyed sports such as bowling, volleyball, cycling, softball and swimming.
And on their 16th birthday they passed their driving test, a mind-boggling feat of teamwork with each twin using one arm to control the steering wheel.

Speaking at the time, their mother Patty, a registered nurse, conceded that could have been a problem.

‘I don’t know what would happen if they got pulled over for speeding. Would they each get a ticket or just Abby because it’s her foot on the accelerator?’
The Daily Mail first introduced the Hensel twins 16 years ago, when they were six years old, and now their latest escapades show the dramatic progress they have made into early adulthood.

The Hensels are believed to be one of only a few sets of dicephalus twins in history to survive infancy, and when they turned 16, they allowed the cameras into their fiercely guarded private world to share this milestone in their lives.

Speaking back then, Brittany said: ‘Believe me, we are totally different people.’
It has not been unknown, however, for the twins to go out in a specially made top with two different necklines – to reflect their unique tastes – and leggings with each leg a contrasting colour and a different shoe on each foot.
Just one set of twins in every 40,000 is born connected in some way to each other and only 1 per cent of those survive beyond the first year.

Yet Patty, 46 and Mike, 47, never once considered having the twins separated, through fear that one or both might die or be left with such severe disabilities their quality of life would be compromised and could no longer enjoy all the activities they love.

They would each have just one arm and one leg and be confined to a wheelchair.
Patty had no idea she was carrying twins until the birth at the local hospital where she worked

‘The paediatrician said my babies were together but they had two heads,’ she recalled in 2006. ‘It was blunt, but completely accurate.
‘From the first time we saw them, we thought they were beautiful.
‘I kissed Abigail and then Brittany and gave them a hug. It’s like that every time I pick them up from school, two kisses and one hug for the most beautiful children in the world.’

Both Mike and Patty’s families have lived in a small midwestern farming community of 300 people for generations and it is here where they have brought up the twins and younger brother Dakota, 20, and sister Morgan, 18, away from the media spotlight.

Although Brittany is more susceptible to colds and has twice suffered pneumonia, the twins have remained in good health despite a series of operations.

Asari Dokubo spits fire, threatens to bomb Hausa's in Niger/Delta

What the former Ijaw Youth Council president and founder of Niger Delta People's Volunteer Force said while addressing a press conference in Abuja on Monday:
The arrogance of B/H is un-islamic. The type of bomb they are using is small small pikin bomb. If we begin, nobody will stay in Abuja.
We don’t manufacture bomb but we buy bombs & dynamites. I started armed struggle in the N/Delta. It's because of GEJ that we at quiet. Soon, we will not be able to guarantee our patience any more. If Ijaw people should retaliate, every household in the North will cry. It is the North that needs peace more than us.
Everybody must impress it on them that they should shield their sword. GEJ must convey a SNC. If I were GEJ, I will roll out tanks to Maiduguri when they declared that everybody must become a Muslim. It is only a SNC that will solve the problem. The solution to the Boko Haram crisis is to dissolve the government and invoke a SNC. But we are not saying Goodluck Jonathan has tried. He has failed. What is Godson Orubebe still doing in the federal cabinet. A time will come if he doesn't change, our people will say, Goodluck, you are on your own. He has every power and every moral authority to convey a Sovereign National Conference. He must correct the 55 years injustice on us.

I want to be fair to IBB and Buhari on the Boko Haram crisis. They have nothing to do and cannot do anything about it. But the fact remains that the political elite of which IBB & Buhari belongs have not been able to address the problem of Boko Haram. They cannot do anything because nobody wants to commit suicide.

The Boko Haram people are just killing themselves but cannot kill us.The Amnesty is a bribe. I did not partake in the amnesty programme. Amnesty was just a bribe for the oil to flow. Its the North that needs peace more than us. We carry the resources. The coastal area is in our hands. Even the Presidency is in our hands.
