Bayern Munich hold shoot-out nerve against Real to clinch Chelsea final

Bayern Munich booked their place in the Champions League final against Chelsea after beating Real Madrid in a dramatic penalty shoot-out at the Bernabeu.

With the scores locked at 3-3 on aggregate after extra-time, it was left to the keepers to make a name for themselves and Bayern’s Manuel Neuer duly obliged.
The German international kept out Real’s first two efforts from Cristiano Ronaldo and Kaka, and even though Iker Casillas managed to give the home side a lifeline by saving from Toni Kroos and Philipp Lahm, Sergio Ramos blazed over the bar to allow Bastian Schweinsteiger to score the decisive spot-kick.

With Bayern leading 2-1 from the first-leg, Jose Mourinho’s men seemed to be cruising to the final after Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice in the opening 14 minutes.
The first coming from the penalty spot when a volley from Angel di Maria struck David Alaba on the arm, and then applying a cool finish after Mezut Ozil’s superb pass picked him out.
But Bayern were back in it after 27 minutes when Pepe pushed Mario Gomez, and Arjen Robben scored from the penalty spot.
Both sides had more chances but had to settle for 30 extra minutes and penalties, where Bayern eventually claimed their place in the final, which will be played at their own Allianz Arena.
