Princess Diana v The Duchess of Cambridge style
The newly refurbished Kensington Palace is currently playing host to a selection of Princess Diana's most iconic dresses at the Diana: Glimpses Of A Modern Princess exhibition. Visitors will be able to get up close and personal with some of the stunning designer pieces that made Diana a bonafide style icon.
Royal blue
Brides-to-be Diana and Kate both chose something royal blue for their engagement announcement. Diana opted for a patterned pussy-bow blouse that was a popular ‘80s fashion staple, while Kate sparked a trend of copycat-styles when she appeared in her figure hugging blue Issa dress.
Fairy tale princesses
Both the weddings of Princess Diana and Prince Charles in 1981, and Prince William and Kate Middleton in 2011 were watched by millions worldwide with huge anticipation surrounding the style of the wedding gowns.
The dresses each attracted vast numbers of spectators and visitors at individual exhibitions. The Duchess of Cambridge’s dress pulled in the crowds when it was recently exhibited at Buckingham Palace, whilst Diana's dress has spent the last seven years on the road as a travelling exhibition.
Mild but masculine
Opting for a casual menswear style both Princess Diana and Kate are understated in neutral trousers and a blazer when photographed out and about in London, dressed almost identically 10 years apart.
Power dressers
Diana dazzled the crowds in this chic orange number during an appearance in Liverpool in 1995. The two women show a remarkably similar style sense as Kate sported a red suit jacket by Luisa Spagnoli when visiting St Andrews in February 2011.
Pretty in pink
Princess Diana wore an elegant pink gown to the opera in Milan in 1985 while the Duchess made an entrance in a plunging hot-pink halter dress for a Starlight Children’s Foundation event in 2008.
